There is something extraordinary about being awake before the rest of the world with the added quiet hum of a new day, the soft light stretching across the sky, and the sense that you are getting a head start on something special. Now imagine beginning that morning alongside lions stretching in the sun, gorillas greeting the day, or reptiles warming up under their lamps.
Zoo Atlanta’s Mornings at the Zoo experience turns early‑morning magic into a memory your family will talk about long after the day is done. Create those beautiful moments with your family.
A Peaceful, Crowd‑Free Start
Before the gates officially open, just 30 guests are welcomed into select viewing areas for a rare, peaceful look at the Zoo waking up. With no crowds and no rush, families can slow down, savor the uniqueness of these moments, breathe in the morning air, and watch their favorite animals begin their day in their own natural rhythms.
Kids love seeing the “morning routines” of the animals such as a giraffe’s first stroll, a tiger’s early stretch, or the quiet curiosity of a waking gorilla troop. Grown‑ups love the calm, the space, and the chance to enjoy the Zoo in a whole new way.
Guided by Experts Who Love What They Do
Each 60‑minute session is led by a knowledgeable Interpretive Guide who brings the experience to life with stories, fun facts, and hands‑on learning. Families can:
- Peek into behind‑the‑scenes morning happenings
- Explore the public side of the featured habitat
- Ask questions and learn through real biofacts
- Discover how the Zoo cares for each spotlighted species
It’s the perfect blend of education and adventure plus it is engaging for kids, fascinating for adults, and accessible for all ages.
A New Theme Each Month
Every date highlights a different species, giving families a reason to return again and again. From reptiles and amphibians to elephants, lions, and great apes, each month offers a fresh chance to learn something new and meet a different animal community.

Your registration includes Zoo admission for the rest of the day, so once the morning tour wraps up, you are free to explore at your own pace. Grab a snack, revisit your favorite animals, or discover a new corner of the Zoo. The whole day is yours.
