A Heartbeat of Hope: Special Requests from the Nicholas House Team

Sharing hope, gratitude, and a special request from the Nicholas House Family

By The Nicholas House Team and Kimberly Wright, Publisher of East Atlanta Macaroni KID January 5, 2026
Nicholas House holds a special place in my heart. I first connected with them through my volunteer work with Free99Fridge and ATLFreeFridge. Whenever they needed anything from clothes, food, toiletries, or monetary donations we had their back. So when I received the message and request below via email, I knew I had to reach out to our community. East Atlanta Macaroni KID is all about community, so let’s come together and do what we can to make a difference for those in need because, after all, "service is the rent we pay for living". Let’s show them an abundance of grace and goodwill.

East Atlanta Macaroni KID is looking to provide dinner for them in January, February, and March. We are currently emailing Antoinette (the volunteer coordinator) to work out the details. Stay tuned to see which dates we secure. We will need help with serving dinner, setting up for dinner, and/or monetary donations to make an impact. There is also a list of shelter supply needs and opportunities for Day-of-Service volunteers. Let’s make this happen and truly be the difference. Below is the formal request.

Happy New Year! As we begin the year, we’re reaching out to our incredible community to help ensure families at Nicholas House continue to receive nourishing meals and the essential items they need to feel safe, supported, and at home.

Open Meal Service Opportunities
We have several upcoming dates available for dinner service at our shelter. Volunteers can provide meals by dropping them off, arranging delivery, or cooking on-site.
Open Dinner Dates:
  • January: 10th, 17th, 29th
  • February: 7th, 13th, 14th, 21st
  • March: 7th, 13th, 14th, 21st, 31st
If you’re interested in signing up for one of these dates or learning more about what meal service looks like, please reach out to our Volunteer Manager Antoinette Johnson at ajohnson@nicholashouse.org.

Immediate Shelter Needs
In addition to meals, we are currently in need of the following items to support families in our shelter and those transitioning into housing:
  • Twin-size comforters/blankets
  • Twin-size kids’ sheets
  • Full & queen-size air mattresses
  • Full & queen-size sheets and blankets/comforters
  • Pillows & pillowcases
  • Heavy-duty plastic forks & spoons
  • Paper plates (no Styrofoam, please)
  • 16 oz plastic cups
  • Paper towels
  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Fabuloso

Day of Service Opportunities
We’re also looking for groups interested in hosting a Day of Service. A major current need is outdoor support—specifically raking, bagging, and (if possible) hauling off leaves around our shelter. These efforts make a huge difference in keeping our space safe and welcoming for families.
